History of Roman Theater
In 1982, excavations started in line with the findings revealed during the construction excavation. The first excavations were carried out between 1982 and 1986 under the leadership of the Anatolian Civilizations Museum. Later, parados buildings, audience seating areas and a stage room were located within the Ankara Roman Theater, which was registered as a protected area on February 25, 1992. In addition, many sculptures and objects are also expressed as findings unearthed during the excavation.
Many items belonging to this period were unearthed between 1982 and 1986 during excavations focused on the Ankara Roman Theatre. It is also stated that all of these items are plastic findings used by theater performers.
In 2009 and 2021, findings were obtained regarding the purposes for which the Ankara Roman Theater was used in the phase after the Roman period. It has been determined that this region was a ceramic and glass production center during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods. Faulty ceramic items, pipes and unreadable coins in the area were seen as factors supporting this situation. All of these works are currently exhibited to visitors on the lower floor of the Anatolian Civilizations Museum.
After the latest excavations, Ankara Roman Theater was given under the control of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. It was decided to subject this theater to restoration work in the next period. Although three-dimensional modeling was done, the restoration work caused great controversy. Although Ankara marble was used in the original of the work, the choice of white marble in the restoration work caused the reaction of many people. It was mentioned that the restoration was not carried out according to the required standards and a new theater was created.

Kültürel miras açısından Ankara için çok güzel bir alan olmuş ve hala çalışmalar devam ediliyor. Umarım başka alanlarda da bu tarz kazı ve restorasyon çalışmaları yapılır.
