After the mosaics from here were first exhibited in the Gaziantep Archaeological Museum, Zeugma Mosaic Museum became its new location in 2011. Starting from the 12th century, this region became a Muslim settlement. It survives to this day as the village of Belkıs in the 16th century. Zeugma Müzesi’ne henüz gelmemiş mozaikleri ve onların çıkarıldığı harika Fırat nehri manzarası için gidilmeye değer. Kazı alanının büyütülmesini sabırsızlıkla bekliyorum.

Büyük İskender’in generallerinden I. Selevkos Nikator, MÖ 300’de, Büyük İskender’in, Fırat Nehri’ni geçtiği yerde, Selevkeia Euphrates ismiyle bir kent kurmuştur. Bu kentin karşısına da eşi Apama’nın adıyla ikinci bir kent kurarak, bu iki kenti bir köprüyle birbirine bağlamıştır. Kent, MÖ 31’den itibaren Roma’ya bağlanarak adı geçit-köprü anlamında “Zeugma” olarak değiştirilmiştir. Roma Dönemi'nde kent altın çağını yaşamıştır. MS 256 yılında Sasani Kralı I. Şapur, Zeugma’yı ele geçirerek yakıp yıkmıştır. Bu tarihten sonra Zeugma bir daha eski ihtişamına ulaşamamıştır.

Tarih kokuyor. Tabi bir kısmı sular altında kalmış. Baraj manzarası da bir hatika. Girişte müze kart geçerli. Girişten sonra 10 dk. yürümek gerekiyor. Biraz sıcak olabilir. Yanınıza su ve şapka almayı unutmayın. Yol boyu fıstık ağaçlarının arasında yürüyorsunuz. Kazısı bitmiş alanın üstü ve etrafı kapalı. İçerisi dışarıdan daha serin. 4-5 katlı yapılar bulunuyor. Yan tarafta kazı devam ediyor. Hem manzara hem de tarihsel içerikler için gidilmeli.

Biraz merkeze uzak, Fırat Nehri yanında havası mükemmel, gezebileceğiniz büyük bir platform içinde tek bir alan var. Cafesi pazartesi geldiğimiz için kapalıydı. Cafenin manzarası harika görünüyor.

MÖ. 3 yy. dan beri insanlığın yaşadığı ve çok ileri mimari zekası ve estetik algısı ile, yaşadıkları yerlere hayat verdiklerini kendi gözlerinizle görmek ve eskilerin bıraktıklarına imrenerek ibret almak için muhakkak gelin derim. Sadece inanılmaz sessizlik için, nehrin altında kalan güzellikleri hayal etmek için gelin derim. Bir zamanlar tepeye inşa edilmiş, şimdiyse nehir kenarında kalan Dionysos Evi, kesinlikle müze kadar görülmeye değer. Yanında kazı çalışmaları halen devam eden Muzalar Evi'ni de uzaktan inceleyebilirsiniz. Üstelik müzenin kafesi de inanılmaz bir Fırat nehri manzarası sunduğu için muhakkak burada bir mola vermenizi tavsiye ederim.
